Round 4: Pizzonia (#3) and Monteiro (#5) both lost their two fastest qualifying laps due to setting their fastest times under yellow flags. Round 5: Alex Müller (car #20) disqualified from race as car was below minimum weight. Round 10: Tomas Enge (car #19) disqualified from event in post-season FIA hearing due to a dope test sample taken at the event testing positive; Antonio Pizzonia (car #3) disqualified from race in post-season FIA hearing due to rear wing element being fitted upside-down. |
European Minardi F3000 were run by Coloni F3000 from mid-season after Paul Stoddart decided to focus on the Minardi F1 team. The new PSM-Racing-Line team was formed from German F3 teams GM Motorsport and Mücke Motorsport. Super Nova were running in Renault colours as they were sponsored by Renault Portugal. Arden International were shown on FIA pre-season entry list as "Arden Team Russia", but there was no longer any Russian backing. |
Other teams previously linked to the 2002 series included: KTR (#s 11 & 12 on the FIA 6/12/01 entry list) - moved to Nissan World Series V6; Prostar (#s 22 & 23, then subject to confirmation - team ran as Prost Junior Team in 2001) - the team were declared bankrupt and had no intention of continuing; DAMS (#s 7 & 8 on the 6/12/01 entry list, then subject to confirmation) quit; a new Scandinavian team; a new Austrian team; a new team run by Jayme Brito [Antonio Pizzonia's manager]. Grids for 2002 were limited to 13 teams (26 drivers). |
Other drivers previously linked to the 2002 series included: Christijan Albers (NL) - tested for European Minardi; "Babalus" (I) - tested for Coloni; Martin Basso (RA) - will race in Euro 3000; Michael Bentwood (GB) - tested for Super Nova; Arnold Brinkmann (ECU) - tested for Coloni; Gianmaria Bruni (I) - tested for Coloni + linked to European Minardi; Joel Camathias (CH) - tested for Nordic; Anthony Davidson (GB); Frank Diefenbacher (D) - tested for Astromega, but will race in German F3; Peter Hackett (AUS) - was due to test for European Minardi; Jaroslav Janis (CZ) - tested for Coloni, but set to race in Euro 3000; Justin Keen (GB) - linked to Coloni; Andre Lotterer (D); Richard Lyons (GB) - tested for Coloni; Darren Manning (GB) - linked to PSM Racing Line, Super Nova & Coloni; Viktor Maslov (RUS) - expected to remain at Arden, but stood down in favour of Wirdheim; Jaime Melo Jr (BR) - tested for Durango; Juliano Moro (BR) - was due to test for Coloni; Stefan Mücke (D) - previously expected to sign for PSM Racing Line, but to race in DTM; Tom Nemarmik (SL) - tested for Durango; Gary Paffett (GB) - tested for Coloni, but will race in German F3; Andrea Piccini (I) - tested for European Minardi + linked to Coloni; Jean de Pourtales (F); Michele Rugolo (I) - tested for Durango; Tomas Scheckter (ZA) - tested for Arden, but will race in IRL; Yannick Schroeder (F) - tested for Coloni; Dominik Schwager (D) - tested for Coloni + then expected to sign for PSM Racing Line; Yuji Tachikawa (J); Mirko Venturi (I) - tested for Durango, but will race for them in FIA Sportscar Championship; Polo Villaamil (E) - tested for Coloni. Warren Hughes (GB) tested for Nordic Racing as Lola test driver to carry out shakedown tests of the new Lola T2/50; similarly reigning champion Justin Wilson (GB) carried out tests of the new F1-sized Avon tyres with the same team. |
