EUROLights

Lola chassis mock-up, January 2002

A new European one-make oval single seater series was due make its debut in 2003. The EUROLights series would have used a Lola B255 chassis combined with 450bhp V6 engines built by Langford Performance Engineering. Cars were expected to have a top speed of 180-190mph. The series would be run by Oval Race Management, a subsidiary company of Rockingham who would also support the series. A Sky Sports interview with Oval Racing Management's Bob Berridge (January 2002) is transcribed here. The initial mock-up of a chassis (pictured) from Lola, awarded a three-year contract to supply cars, was based around the F3000 Lola B2/50 tub, incorporating CART-style wings and sidepods. The race chassis was due to undergo a full test programme in 2002, beginning in May and continuing intensively in June to August. An announcement about the series was due to be made in September. As of October 2002, it was rumoured that development of the series had been withheld, so that funds could be concentrated on strengthening the ASCAR series. It is not clear if or when a EUROLights series will get underway.
