Oda Nobunaga's horse

Oda Nobunaga's castle in Gifu displays this huge doll today.

Oda Nobunaga's COLLEXION OF TRINKETS had political significance, that's why Toyotomi Hideyoshi imitated it
during his reign between 1582-1599. Click here for complete story about the collexion's sociopolitical value.

Oda Nobunaga's Gifu dinner

Dinner at Gifu castle in Oda Nobunaga's years must have been just as great as this evening's.

Do you know how people of Gifu caught fish for Oda Nobunaga? It's nothing like you've ever seen anywhere else. And they still do it today.

About Oda Nobunaga

Oda Nobunaga's most-famous armor; an armor was one single thing a samurai home would never have been one without. But you know what? He never wore this kind of armor.

Click here to see what he loved most to wear in battle.

About Oda Nobunaga

When unlikely to get donned in short notice, the armor was put into this exceedingly neat box.

Like the historical and original armor that Oda Nobunaga really wore in battle, Oda Nobunaga's own 'tsuba' (part of a sword, hand-protector at the hilt, like the pic at your right side) was very modest compared to what 21st century swordsfans thought.

About Oda Nobunaga

Oda Nobunaga on a sword's part. It is an incongruent depiction; the way he tote the sword and that he is carrying a saké bottle are typical of Oda as a teenager; but the pic is of his older days. Click here if you have no idea what I'm talking about.

Click here for pictures of the original Oda Nobunaga's 'tsuba'. It's not like what you might imagine.

Oda Nobunaga's world map

Oda Nobunaga's world map. He spent evenings talking with Jesuit missionaries and mobile merchants, instead of any artistic waste of time. Oda never missed a chance to hear of the latest stuff imported from across the ocean, or what went on in another hemisphere at the time; in his very last day on earth he still mused about sailing with Toyotomi Hideyoshi to China.

A lot of tourists have been told that Oda Nobunaga was 'close with the Catholic priests' and that 'he was interested in Christianity' -- that's very untrue. He was sort of friendly toward them for what came from their countries (guns and cakes, for instance), and to 'use' the missionaries to drive his bitter enemies the Buddhist warrior-monks to some nerve-wrecking rage.

Click here if you have no idea what I'm talking about. Click here for what Oda Nobunaga said about a voyage around the world, just one night before he died.
