the Great Western 47s


A long way from its home depot of Landore, 47846 had found its way to Preston on a previous days working. To get it back to the south west, it was put onto 1V50, the 1130 Preston-Penzance on 25th August 1998, photographed at Preston after being attached to the train.
Hauling a freshly painted set of Virgin stock, the formation grabbed the attention of many enthusiasts in the following hours!

Prior to Great Western green being applied, the loco worked in traffic in all over white livery!


On its first working since appearing at the Old Oak Common open day, 47846 (which had starred at the open day with black headcode boxes) was photographed at Paddington about to haul 1C00 2350 Paddington-Penzance on Monday 7th August 2000.
