Matlock lies just outside the National Park, some 7 miles from Dale End: the most direct route is via Winster. Matlock is the largest town in the area and is Derbyshire's administrative centre. Other large towns that merge into Matlock are Darley Dale, Two Dales, Matlock Bath, and Cromford. There is lots to see and do in the area, including: the Heights of Abraham (Matlock Bath), Gulliver's Kingdom (Matlock Bath), the Mining Museum (Matlock Bath), High Tor (Matlock), Arkwright's Mill (Cromford), the Black Rocks (Cromford), Steam Train Rides (Darley Dale), the Red House Carriage Museum (Darley Dale), and Matlock Town "The Gladiators" F.C. (if you're desperately pining after (desperate) football). The nearest railway station from Dale End is in Matlock, with trains south to Derby and Nottingham. |
